This replacement of all heat and AC functionality in an e10 e9 or e21 will greatly improve these great classic cars. In our experience building from ground up nearly 300 classic BMW's we believe the e10 2002 just want of the most phenomenally engineered vehicles of all time with a notable exception of the HVAC system.
The original heater box made out of fragile plastic that ages. This makes the replacement of the Bosch fan motor problematic or sometimes impossible without unbalanced noise problems with fan speed resistors etc. The brass valve under hood often corroded, cable broken off or stock expensive to replacement $500 new if cannot be reconditioned. Cables to the control area difficult to repair, replace, remove just to fix heater box. Although our experience refurbishing heater coils generally good if it does need replacement (eventually will) is expensive.
Design of heater box with fan in cowl area makes failure likely as exposed to water. heater lines and box allows engine fumes to often enter cabin. Just all said just the heater system problematic, expensive and not optimal
Lets turn to AC. BMW 2002's did not come from the BMW factory with any air conditioning. All AC was added by dealers with at least 3 main products developed in the aftermarket. Behr, Clardy and Fridgking. All of these sytems worked the same with a small evaporator added in parallel (not integrated) to heat with its own controls, heat exchanger and fan. The challenge which was same challenged we faced in our design is how to fit this solution into the small space and not block glove box access / and or intrude on driver foot and leg access to controls.
Thus the Dtechnik solution was born from repairing, replacing at least 200 of these older systems.
This new solution is very cost competitive with just a minimal repair of heat and air and updates and modernizes the entire HVAC system. When done your BMW 2002 will have a system roughly equivalent to what you would find in just about any modern sports sedan. An integrated heat and ac coil, electronic controls for defrost vents, heater temp. We even have designed potentiometer slide controls you can retrofit into the location of the original cable slide controls to right of steering wheel. We generally advise and include duct and vent to convert control area to left of steering wheel into a vent for more balanced cooling

Was constantly trying to keep old heater box and Behr AC working until discovered this Dtech AC / Heat system for E10 BMW's my 73 BMW 2002 Installed quick with great phone support. All modern components easy to service in car. REally like way the heater control valve and ac expansion valve are in engine bay easy to service and no risk of leaking in cockpit. Upgraded to the new slide controls also
